It's That Time Again--Viewer Comments

A blog reader asked me the other day if I had any more viewer emails and comments lately. Of course, they are a dime a dozen! And some of them can be rather funny.

WLBT has been touring our viewing area programming Midland Weather Radios for viewers. The comment I've heard the most over the last two weeks:

"You sure are better looking in person than you are on tv!"

All you can do is laugh because you know they mean well, but they just don't know how to say it.

I walked into a local convenience store to buy a Diet Sunkist the other day. When I took it to the check out counter, the clerk said, "You look just like Barbie Bassett on WLBT!" I said, "I do? You think so?" She shook her head. "Are you her sister?" the clerk asked. "No, I'm not her sister," I told her. "I swear, you look just like her. Bet you hear that a lot, don't you?" she asked. "Yes, quite a bit," I said. "Yeh, Barbie Bassett's a big 'ol girl, you know, since she had all of them kids," as she looked me over. "But you're a tiny thing, so you couldn't be her." I didn't have the heart to tell her who I was! I was afraid she would've been embarrassed.

And then, I received this email yesterday:

I know you have lived in Mississippi all your life and have been doing the weather for a long time. You should know how to pronounce the towns. In Franklin County, you always mispronounce Lucien and Eddiceton. If you are not sure by now, you should contact some one that knows. Thank you for finally getting this right. Signed, Lazarus

Sigh......

I don't know how in the world you can walk out of a store like that without letting them know you're indeed Barbie. You're a bigger person than most people would be! I commend you for that.

Barbie,
I met you this past Saturday in Books-a-million.You are truly a beautiful person inside and out. You said to let you know what I thought of your book. I could not put it down! I read the whole thing in one day. I would love for you to write another book. Maybe on marriage and/or raising children. Thanks again for the great book.
