Viewer Mailbag

I've gotten quite a bit of "fan" mail lately--all of them asking the same question.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been wondering if you are pregnant again.? You look like it on tv. Sincerely, Nancy Goodwin in McComb

Barbie, Are you pregnant again? Signed, P.Magruder

Dear Barbie, You are a refreshing breath of fresh air every time you give a forecast! We are so glad to have you back from your matenity leave. Your new hairstyle is very fashionable and your wardrobe & accessories always compliment your apparel. We are hoping that you are not having remaining problems from your pregnancy, as it is obvious that you still have alot of "belly fat" or maybe swelling of the tummy. I am not sure what your problem with the tummy is, but you still look pregnant and I decided to send you this note & let you know. Signed, Anonymous

Four weeks ago, I decided to go on the Baptist Heath Systems liquid diet. Blog readers in the metro area know all about this diet. It is drastic diet which is doctor supervised. In four weeks, I've lost 12 pounds and go to the gym 5 days a week. My personal goal is to lose a total of 40 pounds (so I have 30 to go). Losing this much weight will get me back down to my high school weight. Sure, I want to lose the baby weight so that I can wear my pre-pregnancy clothes again. But I'm also doing this to hopefully prevent heart problems like my brother has experienced over the last year.

I guess the above viewers don't realize how much time it takes to lose the baby weight, especially after a c-section. And they probably don't understand how the tv adds 10 pounds to everyone because it is a two-dimensional picture.

To be honest, I have cried more times than I can count over these emails, not to mention the constant phone calls coming into the television station. Lilly Faith is 15 weeks old now and if some viewers would have patience, I promise I will once again be the size they expect me to be.
And society wonders why our pre-teen and teenage girls have such warped body images?

So I'm going to take a break for a while and go to the Neshoba County Fair to spend time with my family. A getaway can always do the heart, and emotions, good!

Don't let those e-mails get to you! People are dumb. They need something negative to obsess over obviously. Have fun at the NCF!

My dad did the same diet. He lost over 100 pounds in about seven months. It's pretty drastic but it definitely helped his heart and diabetes problems. He's put a good bit back on but he's getting back on it now.

I can't believe how people can be so rude. You would think that grown-ups would have a clue about how to speak to other grown-ups but obviously not. It's like they don't have a filter.

I think you look fabulous whether you are pregnant or not. You're such a blessing in so many ways.

Oh, Barbie,
You are beautiful inside and out. Don't let those people get you down. I can't believe people can be so heartless. God Bless You and remember what and whose opinion really counts. Have a blessed day! GP in Flowood, Mississippi

Barbie you are a beautiful person inside and out. The people complaining about your belly fat obviously have never had a baby and don't realize you don't instantly go back to pre-pregnancy weight. Just ignore stupidity and know that you are an inspiration to so many people. Keep smiling.

I think you look beautiful just the way you are. These people obviously have nothing better to do with their time.

Oh, why do people have to be so hateful?? My son is eight months old and I still have 30 pounds to lose. I gained 60, and had a c-section, and this has been the hardest thing EVER! The Diet Coke doesn't help, I'm sure. ;) You really do look great. Just imagine what the people talking down to you must look like! Haha!

I am just stunned that someone would actually sit down and write something so rude. I am so sorry that someone much less a lot of "someones" have said such negative things to you. You are gorgeous -- inside and out!!

Barbie, for your own mental health it sounds to me like you need to just turn away from reading those comments and allowing your spirit to be hurt by them. Your identity and your worth come from God, not from random human beings with poor judgement and lack of compassion!

AAArgh! In the future, I wish people who leave ugly, hurtful emails would attach a picture of themselves so we can all critique them. As, I'm sure they are perfect. As for you, don't worry about what they say- remember you have a healthy body~ that's alot to be thankful for!

You are beautiful. Try not to let it get to you.

Barbie,
I just cannot beleive how people can be so cruel and hateful. I will never understand why people think they have to say something negative to someone. I have recently experienced someone saying something negative to me at work. I just don't understand what they get out of it. Don't listen to them. Just like an earlier person said--wonder what they look like. I know in the past one of the comments you posted from a viewer who had nerve to post with her name--was overweight and had been for years AND she didn't just have a baby either. My point is--why criticize someone!

you look beautiful. i just hope that when i have a 15 month old I'll look as wonderful as you do. It's sad that our society has gotten so warped in their thinking to believe that women should be perfect. we are human. stay strong and please know that for everyone that says something negative there are 10x's that many saying positive things. head up and have a blast at the fair.

Oh, for Pete's sake. Don't let these people get to you. It is absolutely ridiculous that they think they can say this kind of stuff to you - I must have missed the show where you said "hey, can everyone send me their uncensored opinions about my appearance? That'd be great, thanks."

If they wouldn't say it to your face, they shouldn't say it AT ALL.

Barbie, just brush the dust off and move on. People who make such comments probably don't have mirrors. My Daddy always said, If you can't say something good about someone, then keep your mouth shut. You are my hero. I am a working Mother and proud grandmother of 8 precious ones. I just have one question for you--how do you do all that you do and still keep such a good disposition. I guess I already know, it is the Holy Spirit that lives within you. God Bless you dear and enjoy that young family you have because before you know it, you will have an empty nest.

Barbie,
You are truly a beautiful person! I love seeing new post from you! You are such an inspiration.
I watched you the other night when you had the pink shirt on and you look FABULOUS honey!!!!
It is so hard not to get down over comments as these but try your best!

Bless your heart. It must be difficult being in the public eye every day...and some of those eyes are not very nice. Just know that there are more eyes watching you that understand and truly enjoy seeing you on tv. Unfortunately, I have some trouble with that dreaded "belly fat". I lost my baby weight 15 years ago, but it seems to have found me again. I think it has something to do with those forty years and gravity. Girl, now that is something to cry about. You just look at that beautiful baby and keep smiling!

Barbie, I can't believe the audacity of people nowdays....they just don't care who they hurt.

My son is in the journalism field and also has to put up with crass and hurtful criticism all the time from cowardly and unknowledgeable, anonymous readers that post at the end of his blogs and columns. I honestly feel that all of this nonsense comes from jealousy...they aren't the ones that have been blessed with the talent nor opportunity to appear in front of the public, on t.v., or in the press.

You are a BEAUTIFUL Christian woman....don't let the dumb comments ruin your daily life. Just consider the source from which the garbage comments come.

By the way, you and your weather crew are my favorite weather news crew. =o)

You mentioned some of the mail you get when you spoke at our ladies Christmas dinner...it is amazing what people will say.

You are a beautiful and very REAL woman. And you've got those precious babies to love. God bless you over and over!!

I think you look beautiful and even commented to my husband a couple of nights ago that I was going to tell my hair stylist to cut my hair like Barbie's.

My grandmother always told me when I was a child that "pretty is as pretty does". And Barbie, by those standards you are beautiful!

God bless you always!

Barbie,

Seventeen months ago, I gave birth to our miracle. The miracle everyone said would never exist. I had pre-eclampsia, hypertension, and was near losing my life that day. I still have over 40 pounds of water weight that I struggle with everyday. You are a beautiful woman, don't allow peoples ignorance to put a cloud on your day. Just do what I do....Get up every morning and say Thank You GOD, I'm a lucky lady.

I've heard some of the letters that people send in...they are hateful. Baby weight takes time to lose. It took me 4 years to lose the weight I gained. People are just stupid!

Barbie, apparently these viewers never stop to ask themselves What Would Jesus Do? He certainly would not treat them as they have treated with you with such harse words. I certainly enjoy and am blessed each and every time I read a post from you because you always back up what you say by scripture and it always helps. Please ignore these people as they do need to stop and ask WWJD? Have a wonderful day. Angie (McComb)

I haven't watched the news in some time because of my schedule...but I'd much rather see Barbie Bassett than Tony Mastro any day...

I know, I know. I try not to sound so rude!

I am anti-Ch 12 and can't understand a word he says! lol!

Kudos to BB!

My mother taught me, "Pretty is, as pretty does." This is what I try to teach my middle school students today. Sounds like some of the viewers need to hear that. I've struggled with weight all of my life, especially after having children. I have an 8 yr. old and a 2 yr. old. It has taken me two years to lose that baby weight, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I lost a baby in between my two, and I would much rather have the dreaded baby weight!! Words can be hurtful but they are just words. You can do it. It will just take time and strength from the Lord, both physical and spiritual. Ps.62:1-2

You are so beautiful!! :) It breaks my heart to hear that you cried...people just need to focus more on their own lives. It must be hard being in the spotlight. I hope you have a wonderful break visiting family and friends.
You may be thinking..who is this girl? My name is Shelley, and I've seen you speak several times at various events, plus, of course, I see you on T.V. Also, I posted your link to my blog. :)

You and your family are BEAUTIFUL...inside & out!!!

I think people don't realize that "stars" really are people and think they put themselves in that position so they're fair game. I can't stand that. I also think they are intimidated by your confidence and intelligence and feel like they have to find something "wrong" with you to make themselves not feel so bad about their circumstances. And some people are just plain clueless. Just know that there are people out there who know that you are--a person with feelings. A TIRED Mama who is trying her best to juggle everything and some things have to fall by the wayside. When we get to heaven that's when we'll have new everything. Just do what you're doing and try to take as many people with you no matter what you or they look like. You are very classy and I'm sorry you're having to deal with the negativity of others.

Barbie,
You just keep your head high because you have done no wrong. You have only had children just like other women in this world have.Your blogs are so refreshing and sweet. You do a great job on t.v..You just keep doing what god tells you to and everything else will just fall into place.

Barbie,
It never ceases to amaze me how cruel human beings can be. No matter how thick your skin is, comments like that hurt and I'm so sorry that people are so shallow they don't realize (or don’t care) how other people feel. For every bad comment you get, I'm sure it takes 10+ to make you feel better but please know that you are so attractive no matter what you wear or what hair style you have. My daughter thinks you are the coolest thing ever and can't wait to see you every night. (She's the one that once called you Basket Barbie) I've never met you but your personality shines through and I see Christ's light even as you report the weather.
Please do not get discouraged by peoples STUPIDITY,...Satin is attacking you to make you inactive. It would please him to see you discouraged! Christ will get you through!!!
We Love you in Mendenhall...

allright. enough already!!! i'm so sick and tired of people getting in your business!! you are so encouraging and open about your faith. thanks for standing up for what you believe and being a positive role model for women and girls, too.

i've never commented before today, but i just had to say something. i really enjoy your devotionals and btw -- i'm a member of your church, too!

I am so saddened to know that people are so cruel. You are a beautiful person, yes, on the outside but more on the inside. God looks at our hearts not at our bodies. I know you know that but it is hard to remember when people are being so mean.
Hope you have a great time away with your family. We look forward to you returning to TV with your beautiful smile.

Just do a forecast holding the baby in your arms one night and they will be reminded how little she is and also be thankful that you don't have her in your tummy covering up the western states anymore! :) I think you look great!
