Rainfall and Snakes

Yesterday's rain was so refreshing. The second the first raindrops started to fall, people began calling the television station to report, "it's raining in fill-in-the-blank". And you could certainly detect a bit of excitement in their voice. Thought I'd share yesterday's official rainfall amounts, although you may have received more or less where you are.

GULFPORT 0.65
GREENWOOD 0.64
GREENVILLE 0.12
HATTIESBURG 0.51
NATCHEZ 0.14
JACKSON INTERNATIONAL Trace
MCCOMB 0.15
MERIDIAN 0.00
LAUREL 0.77
PASCAGOULA 1.24
TUPELO 0.01
VICKSBURG Trace

One lady called yesterday and said her neighbor had killed a snake and posted the slithering creature to her back fence, belly side up. I had never heard of this before until a few years ago. Apparently, there is an old wives tale that says if you kill a snake and post it to your fence, it will bring rain. Trust me on this one, if that worked, there wouldn't be a snake to be found because everyone would be killing and posting snakes. On the other hand, if I'm close enough to kill a snake, I'm too close!

The chances for more rain today is at 90%, so there is no need to go huntin' snakes...
