Viewer Emails

Every Friday during football season, I travel to a local game and do the weather on location. Its always fun to meet the students and see high school stadiums that I've never been to before. WLBT did a commercial with me and some football players promoting the football forecasts. The kicker is, I am wearing a cheerleader uniform in the commercial (yes, scary thought, I know). When we recorded the promo, I asked our crew to "not show too much". They did as I asked and let me keep the pom poms at my waist. (After all, my daddy always hated watching me wear the cheerleader outfit in high school. He still wanted us to wear the uniforms with the long skirts from the 50s & 60s.) So I wanted the commercial to be done in good taste so I wouldn't have to hear any complaints from daddy. Yesterday, I received this email:

Hey Barbie, when will you all be coming to do your weather cast at a Provine game? I graduated from Provine 5 years ago but still go to all games. All of us think you are the hottest, hippest chick at WLBT and would enjoy seeing you at our game night, hoping you wear that hot cheerleader outfit and cheer the rams on! How bout it? Signed, Tyrone

I don't know if that was a compliment or not. Then I received this email from a viewer:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Barbie, my wife and I think you're terrific at your job. However, we both think you need to change your style. You have a great personality but you need an extreme makeover. We think you need an updated hairstyle and you would look super in some Ann Taylor tailored clothes. Please don't take this as criticism as we really enjoy watching you every day. Signed Bob & Kris in Madison

"Extreme Makeover"? Maybe I can get a makeover while wearing my cheerleader outfit......

Barbie - I think you rock! You can't help that you have to find a different outfit for every.single.day! Plus, if I'm not mistaken, I think the credits at the end of the news say that your clothing is provided by Maison Weiss. I wouldn't mind having to wear new digs from them every day! Don't listen to them! You're the best!

Thanks, girls. Christi, I WISH my clothes came from Maison Weiss! Our makeup comes from them, but we're on our own when it comes to clothes.

Well, you do a good job on your own then!! Thanks for being such a great role model to young women today! I truly look up to you.

Barbie, my hats off to you--for the courage to get into a cheerleader outfit and for dressing as a lady who honors her LORD as well as mother and father here on earth. As for the extreme makeover, I don't know how they could improve your beauty. THe LORD did such a good job of creating you with much beauty both inside and outside. I bless you Barbie and thank you for standing firm until the end. Debra

Barbie, I enjoy reading your blog each day. I think it is amazing what total strangers think that they can say to a TV personality. It makes me laugh out loud. But you always handle each situation with grace. Way to go! Keep up the good work! May the Lord continue to bless you and your family. Jennifer

You are doing a wonderful job, its the weather report, not a fashion show. Maybe that couple who thought you needed a "makeover" should offer to provide the clothes they think are appropriate?.. Just a thought..As for the guy who wanted a hot cheerleader, have Rob Jay put on the outfit..on second thought, never mind...;)

I think you are beautiful, full of grace, and the sweetest person I've ever talked to.

God Bless You Often!

Barbie-I've decided that people just need to get a life! It's sad to think that people can take the time to say something negative about someone's "style" or clothing, but they are much too busy to use that energy to do something "good" for someone or say something that might just "brighten someone's day"! You are a true, Southern lady and I admire how you handle things with such grace!
